Breakfast Update

I was up around 6 am this morning.  I took a 4 hours nap yesterday (!) because I was feeling so poorly.  But I’m happy to have the whole day ahead of me (a rare event due to my love for sleeping in.  I’m hoping to change this habit this summer).

For breakfast I had a green monster.  We had some greens that were *this close* to becoming gross and inedible.  I am one of those people who cannot eat wilted greens (unless I wilted them myself under heat, like spinach for a dish).  So it took a while for me to pick out gross bits, rinse, and repeat.  But I had about 2.5 cups of greens for my GM.

2.5 cups green stuff
1 whole orange
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup coconut water
3 ice cubes

With some cherries on the side in my new blue bowl, which I love!

Recap!

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a while.  Life has run away with me.  This post will probably be a little long, because I’m just going to post the random pics of food I’ve had and whatnot.  So, let’s recap – in the past week I’ve:

1. Eaten food
2. Taken (some) pictures of said food
3. GRADUATED from college!!

Shocking, I know.  😀  I’m very happy to be done, but also kind of freaked out because I don’t really know what I’m going to do next.

Anyway, onto food and other things!

I’ve been eating a lot of the same things lately – which is what I tend to do when I find something I like.  So featured in my kicks lately – bread, tomatoes, hummus, basil, mangoes.  Examples (food pics!):

Good bread (read: crunchy!), tomatoes w/salt & pepper, tabouli, croutons & basil yum!  And don’t worry – I didn’t have any of that tasty nail polish remover.  😉

I also made a fantastice peanut sauce, which will probably get its own post.  Definitely going to repeat that recipe.

This was fast, easy, and delicious! Tomatoes + basil = love

I also went out with friends the Friday before graduation and we had a few drinks at The Vid.  I wanted to share this pic, just cause it was unexpected and funny.  🙂

Well, I’ll hopefully be back soon with posts detailing graduation presents, that fantastic peanut sauce I mentioned, and my adventures in making muhammura.  😛  Hint: it was good!

Peppermint & Lizards

Lately I’ve been waking up feeling slightly nauseated and not hungry, which is very weird for me.  I’m usually a Breakfast girl, ready to eat as soon as I get up.

Yesterday I got up and made a morning smoothie of 1 banana, ~1 cup chocolate hemp milk, a handful of blackberries, and ~1.5 cups baby spinach.  Usually I would love this, but for some reason I was not feeling it.  Disappointing.  And of course I forgot to take a picture.

It’s finals week, and I ran so many errands yesterday that when I did realize I was hungry, I was hungry.  I got a Jimmy John’s vegeterian sub, and there was a new girl who put some kind of oil sauce on my sandwich that should not go on the vegetarian (I think it was meant for a sicilian or something).  It tasted good but didn’t really help my queasiness.  I was still hungry (cause I ate too fast) and so I had a chocolate mint Jocolat which I’ve decided I don’t like.  Chocolate was good, mint – not so much.  And THEN, of course, I was too full.   *sigh*  I just couldn’t win.

Seven hours later after studying ASL with a friend, dinner rolled around.  And it was much better.

I had a whole wheat pita with tomato slices & 1/2 avocado, 1/2 avocado guacamole.  I had a bit of rice with some Indian spiced potato mash (I don’t remember what this was – it was what my family had for dinner and it was vegetarian).

Fruit was some blackberries w/a little bit of cooked brown sugar apple, and pineapple.

Eaten with a small salad w/olive oil, lemon juice, salt & pepper.

I got a trick from Oh She Glows (via her husband!) to dilute some orange juice with water.

And that was yesterday!

Today has been pretty regular; banana for breakfast, toast with tomatoes and avocado.  I did try to make some banana chocolate soft serve, but I added some peppermint extract and it was Too Much.  It made the whole thing gross and I just started over.  😦

I did some wandering around PetCo to kill some time before an interview this morning.  I had lots of fun looking at all the fish, birds, turtles, and hermit crabs.  Get a load of this guy!

Not the best picture, but this lizard looked prehistoric!  His eyes were strangely slitted, like a crocodile.  So bizarre and cool!

I anticipate another attempt at chocolate softserve tonight.  Without peppermint this time.

On a Date….with Mom

Yesterday I had the day off (unusual, I work on Sundays) so my mom and I went on a DATE.  😀

We ran errands, returned my brother’s tux from prom – he looked great!  Our plan was to find something for me to wear under my cap and gown for graduation.  But first, we had to get something to eat.

I’ve talked about Bloomingfoods before and how much I love it.  Well, we stopped at the east side today and decided to eat from the hot bar there.

I had steamed veggies, brown rice, and salad with peas, garbanzo beans, carrots, red onions, a hard boiled egg, and tau dressing.

What a great salad.  Gah, it was delicious.  I’m actually not hungry right now but I would love to go back and eat that again.  Which, speaking of….

We got some red curry tofu as well.  It could have a little bit more “curry” kick, but it was goooood.

With some of these…

I’ve seen these around the blog world, but this is my first time trying them.  We got the black pepper flavor.  They were very good, very filling, and a lot lighter and crispier than I expected.  I love the simple ingredients, as well.  I’ll definitely be buying again.

The other day I bought some whole wheat pita bread from Bloomingfoods that I really like.  And the nutritional profile is excellent!  190 calories, just a couple grams of fat, with almost no sugar and 8 grams of protein.  Yes, please.  I had some for lunch at work a few days ago with hummus, a carrot, and an avocado.

I tell you what, this really filled me up.  I only had one of the carrots, and I ate the kiwi later as a snack on my break outside.

*Sidenote: As a former nailbiter, I have to point out how fantastic my nail looks in this picture.  I have struggled with this habit for over a decade and I kicked it!!!  Just proof that if you really want to change something about yourself, you can do it.  You just have to really want it, work at it, and find ways to encourage your own success.  Whatever works!

Well, that concludes my update for today.  I’m trying to stay up on my blog, but this is finals week, my room is a mess, I have so much to do that I feel like I’m going crazy.  But it will soon be over, and I will say that I am enjoying about 85% of my day, every day.  Well, maybe 87%.  And that’s a good thing!  🙂
